Landcare SJ Inc is a non profit community community based organisation that coordinates landcare, bushcare and catchment care in the districts of Serpentine Jarrahdale and North Murray.

In partnership with other groups and landholders in the community, we develop and enact programs to achieve:

  • A reversal in land degradation
  • Promotion of best land management
  • Conservation and restoration of habitat for native flora and fauna
  • Improvement of water quality in river systems, drains and wetlands

We also provide opportunities, resources and support for landholders and community groups to improve their skills and knowledge in the management of natural resources.

Landcare staff welcome visitors to the Landcare Centre in the old school building in Mundijong.

Two of our ongoing projects

Sustainable Agriculture

Sustainable Agriculture has been promoted in the Peel Harvey Region for many years by the Serpentine Jarrahdale and Dandalup-Murray Land Conservation District Committees (LCDC) through Landcare SJ.
Both committees include members who have farmed over many seasons, and who have been involved in LCDC projects which trial and implement improved agricultural practices.
LCDC members are committed to providing support to other landholders ( including hobby farmers). They do this by assisting with technical advice and accessing grant funding for on-ground environmental projects on private landholdings in the district.

The Cockatube nesting box

This nesting box was developed for all species of endangered & threatened Black Cockatoos
The COCKATUBE® nesting box has been developed by Landcare SJ Inc. in co-operation with the WA Museum and a wide spectrum of organisations and people with a passion to help these beautiful and endangered birds.

Field Days

Subject to funding, we run an annual calendar of events for landholders and community groups.

  • Property planning courses
  • Computer Farm Mapping

Pest Control

Pests, both vertebrates (backbone) and invertebrates (no backbone), can have an adverse impact on agriculture, the natural environment and even our lifestyle. Animal pests may be exotic animals which are introduced, either accidentally or deliberately. Native animals may also be pests in certain situations.

The Department of Agriculture and Food, Western Australia manages pests in Western Australia through policy development, risk assessment, research and development, provision of technical advice and information, implementation of regulation, emergency response, property inspections, industry liaison, and the planning and coordination of significant species control/eradication programs.

Landcare SJ coordinates regular workshops and seminars to assist landowners in the Peel Murray region to better manage feral animal control
